Below is the topic you will be writing on for Monday’s test. The study guide will be posted Friday. There are two documents available. USE THEM. Citing them in the essay is REQUIRED. We will talk about it briefly in class. I suggest a visit to the English tutors before or after school.
By its very nature revolution is wholesale change, an overthrowing of the old regime, its values and customs. Revolution brings about radical new opportunities and freedoms, new ideas, and new governments. Many have argued that the American Revolution was more about preserving the status quo. Using the handouts and your knowledge of the material, support the idea that the revolution was either a true revolution that brought major changes or attempt to preserve the present that did little or nothing for average whites, women, blacks, and Indians.
I have attached a .pdf file entitled “Social Change by Revolution” and a short article on how revolutionary the Revolutionary War was. Please use these for preparing the essay.

Since the next two classes will look at the Greek world from the Mycenae state to the conquests of Alexander the Great, I thought it would be good for you to hear from Donald Kagan, a Yale professor who wrote a four-volume account of the Peloponnesian War. Below is a link to the YouTube channel on his course.
IMPORTANT: This course is also available through iTunes U or the podcast section of iTunes. I prefer this because I can download the class and not have to be online to use it. Search “Ancient Greece” in iTunes you and you shouldn’t have any trouble finding it.
ASSIGNMENT: Choose any of the lectures from the Kagan course and complete a summary that is approximately one page. The summary can be narrative or outline form. Several of your summaries will be put together as part of the study guide for the next quiz.

11. Did you have any idea Sam Adams was so important to the revolution and not just the namesake of a modern-day spirit? Explain his importance and note if this was new to you.
The common thinking is that the colonies were just plain being taxed to death like Mass. was some kind of European socialist country. Was this really the case? If no, why do think they had such a problem being British subjects?
